Everything You Need to Know About Laminated Floor Installation

When it comes to improving the look and feel of your home, few things make a bigger impact than installing new flooring. But with so many options on the market, it can be challenging to decide which one is right for you. That’s where laminated flooring comes in. Not only is it an affordable option, but it can also add value to your home. Here’s what you need to know about laminated floor installation.

It's Easier Than You Think

Many people shy away from the idea of installing their own flooring because they assume it’s a complicated process. However, with laminated flooring, it’s actually much easier than you might expect. The planks are designed to snap together, so all you really need to do is lay them down in the correct pattern.

Tools You'll Need

One of the best things about laminate flooring is that it requires minimal tools. However, there are a few things you will need to get started. At a minimum, you’ll need a saw (either a jigsaw or circular saw), a tape measure, a square, a hammer, a rubber mallet, knee pads, spacers and a pry bar.

Preparation Is Key

Before you dive in and start laying down planks, it's important to properly prepare the area. First and foremost, you’ll want to make sure the subfloor is level. If it’s not, you may need to use a self-levelling compound. Additionally, you’ll want to remove any existing flooring and baseboard trim. This will ensure the laminate flooring sits flush with the walls and provides a clean finish.

Know Your Options

When it comes to laminated flooring, you have many options to choose from. Different brands offer different colours, patterns and textures. Some may have a high-gloss finish, while others are more matte. You’ll also want to consider the thickness of the planks. Thicker planks tend to be more durable and can mimic the feel of hardwood flooring. Thinner planks, on the other hand, may be a better option if you’re on a tight budget.

Maintenance Tips

Once your laminated flooring is installed, you’ll want to keep it looking great for years to come. The good news is that it’s relatively low-maintenance. You can simply sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any dirt or debris. However, you’ll want to avoid using wet mops, as excess moisture can damage the planks. If you need to clean up a spill, use a damp cloth and immediately dry the area.

If you're looking for an affordable and easy way to update the look of your home, laminated flooring is definitely worth considering. With just a few tools and some preparation, you can have new flooring installed in no time. And with so many options to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect style for your home.
